# roark agent prompt update

> Set an agent's prompt

Sets the agent's API-managed prompt. This is its own version history (`source: API_MANAGED`), separate from prompts observed on calls, edited in the app, or managed by config-as-code. Setting the same content twice is a no-op (no new version). Roark does not run your agent and no metric reads this prompt: it is stored and versioned for your reference.

```bash Synopsis theme={"theme":{"light":"everforest-light","dark":"everforest-dark"}}
roark agent prompt update <agent-id> [options]
```

> [!NOTE]
>
> Calls `PUT /v1/agent/{agentId}/prompts`

## Arguments

**agent-id** `string` *required*

The agent-id.

## Options

**--prompt** `string` *required*

The prompt content to set.

## Example

```bash theme={"theme":{"light":"everforest-light","dark":"everforest-dark"}}
roark agent prompt update <agent-id> --prompt <value>
```

Every command also takes the [global options](/cli-reference/overview.md#global-options) and sets one
of the [exit codes](/cli-reference/overview.md#exit-codes).
